Rally the kiddies and spend some quality time as a family while learning how to conserve energy during Earth Hour! Earth Hour focuses on how our actions today will impact the planet for our kids, and generations thereafter. If you're going to save the world, you might as well have fun doing it, so we've put together some awesome ideas that will illuminate the dark hour.
1. Create a Shadow Puppet Theatre
Gather the whole family, dress up in PJ's, and let the kids put on their very own shadow puppet show. Let the kids get creative with these printable templates during the March holiday period. You can even come up with some interesting story ideas to make the puppet show interesting. Another alternative - you can show the little ones how to use their hands to create animals and other shapes simply by lighting up a candle in front of a blank wall.
2. Camp Out and Build a Fort in Your Living Room
Grab some star shaped glow in the dark stickers, comfy pillows and some old sheets to get a mini camp site going in your living room. Set up a picnic blanket with some snacks cut out into the shape of stars and moon and get story time going right in the comfort of your own home.
3. Get Artsy

For a bigger creative challenge, why not turn some of your trash into beautiful, meaningful art by upcycling it? These five crafty recycling projects for kids are fun, creative and downright awesome. Start collecting your recycled arts and crafts supplies and turn your Earth Hour into a whole day of fun.
4. Celebrate Earth Hour at SAFRA
To play a part in helping Earth, SAFRA will be hosting a couple of amazing events from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on 24 March 2018. If you're a fan of Star Wars - SAFRA's got you covered with Light Saber Fitness in the dark at SAFRA Toa Payoh! Join the Artscursion Walk at SAFRA Mount Faber and get the chance to gaze at stars as the lights go out. SAFRA will also be organising various art workshops and plenty of fringe activities all around the various SAFRA Clubs.
Earth Hour is a global movement uniting people to take small, achievable steps to protect the planet. By engaging your kids, you are teaching them about the importance of caring for our planet. Don't forget to explain to your children the reason why you're turning the power off!
