Singapore Science Festival 2013
The Singapore Science Festival 2013 is back with its biggest edition yet! Running from the 19 July till the 4 August, this year’s festival holds over 70 exciting events island wide. Featuring world-class science speakers and performers, the festival is partnering with over 50 different local partners to provide a fun going experience for all.
An eagerly anticipated annual event, this year’s Singapore Science Festival hopes to celebrate and showcase science in an attractive manner. Going with the tagline ‘Science is Fun’, festival goers can chart their fun scientific journey with the newly launched festival passport.
Festival participants will be transported back in time as they discover the science of the ancient burial practices at the ArtScience Museum. The festival journey continues at Universal Studios Singapore as festival goers dissect the scientific intricacies behind the thrilling roller coaster rides.
But, that’s not all. The festival also hopes that it will serve as a platform to promote interaction between the local scientific community and the general public. Festival organisers have appointed five young and vibrant festival ambassadors. One of them being, the fashion centric research fellow Dr Marvin Lee. The ambassadors will serve as a face to the local science community.

Kicking off the Singapore Science Festival, X-periment! is a three day science carnival taking place from the 19 to 21 July at Marina Square Central Atrium. The free event promises to be a treat as famed science entertainer, Dr Ken Farquhar debunks common circus feats through science.
In addition, visitors will also get to celebrate the latest cutting edge scientific innovations by local research and educational institutions. Learn more about the importance of science in our everyday lives and participate in hands-on science based activities! Be sure to check out highlights such as printable solar cell batteries, stem cell jellies and a giant robotic snake with lifelike movements!
Singapore Mini Maker Faire
One of the returning festival events is the Singapore Mini Maker Faire. Dubbed as the crowd favourite, it’s due to take place on the 27th to 28th July at *SCAPE Warehouse.
The two-day faire will provide a public platform for local and international inventors to show case their creations. Be sure to look out for eco-friendly Jewellery, animated wall paintings and automated home appliances and equipment. There will also be workshops on topics such as 3D printing and The Maker Movement!
Science Buskers Festival
Lastly, be sure to check some interesting science busking which is taking place at the Science Buskers Festival! Taking inspiration from Singapore Idol, this science performance showdown will see ordinary Singaporeans share their passion for science before a large audience.
