Safra - Rules & Regulations

Rules & Regulations

Participants are to read the following rules and regulations before proceeding with registration.

Registration
(a) All participants are to register by 31 December 2010.

(b) Registration(s) on the spot will not be entertained.

(c) There will be no refund of registration fee should a team fail to turn up on the race day. Participants under 21 years of age (on race day) must seek parental/guardian’s consent to register for the race.

(d) Individuals with no prior experience on adventure racing are encouraged to enter the sprint categories.

Skills Test
(a) All participants (except those who have participated in SAFRA AVventura – The Northern Adventure Race 2006 & The Coastal Challenge 2007 & Rough Ramble 2009 & SAFRA AVventura 2010; Adventure Singapore 2006/2007 & Ace Adventure Challenge IV 2007 & Ace Adventure Challenge 2010 and SAFRA AVventura 2010) must attend a ropes and/or kayak skills test depending on the participating category. Teams that fail to do so will not be eligible to race.

(b) All participants who are exempted based on the pre-requisites listed in (a) must submit a copy of the necessary certificate/s. Teams without this certification must attend a skills test scheduled prior to race day.

(c) Ropes and/or kayak skills test are scheduled at least 2 months prior to race day unless stated otherwise.

(d) Teams that fail to attend will not be eligible to race.

(e) All rope and kayak skills test does not constitute as an official certification for Star 1 Kayak and/or Level 1 Sport Climbing course.

General
(a) SAFRA AVventura is a team race and all team members must start and finish the race together.

(b) All forms of teamwork, including pulling & carrying team members will be permitted.

(c) Teams must be self-contained except for official support offered from official aid stations. No external support is allowed during the race.

(d) Teams may be supported by other official entered teams, provided that the support will not result in unfair advantage or disadvantage to other teams.

(e) Teams must race through all Checkpoints in order. Should a team miss a checkpoint, they must back track to the missed checkpoint.

(f) Teams must travel only on the designated race route, marked by ribbons, signages, given map or directed by race officials & marshals.

(g) The actual distance, race route and order of disciplines will not be disclosed until the race day. All teams are required to attend the Race Briefing conducted prior to race day. Teams that fail to do so will not be eligible to race.

Timing
(a) The team that finishes all checkpoints and mystery tests with the fastest timing wins the race.

(b) The cut-off time for the race is set at the 9th hour. The race organiser reserves the right to adjust the cut-off time as and when deemed necessary in view of any safety considerations and for the best interests of the participants and the structure of the race.

(c) Cut-off times may be designated at various checkpoints of the race. Teams arriving after the designated cut-off times may be required, at the sole discretion of the race officials, to withdraw from the race or take a shortened route to the finish line.

Race Passport
(a) One (1) Race Passport will be issued to each team. The passport must be signed or punched with the time of arrival & exit at every Checkpoint.

(b) Teams are required to waterproof their Race passport so as to ensure the passport is in good readable condition.

Breach of Rules & Regulations
(a) The race organiser reserves the right to impose penalties or disqualify teams for breach of race rules. Penalties for breach of rules may include:-

i) time penalties added to a team’s finished time.
ii) delay start or stop a team during the race.
iii) requests for the team to repeat a particular segment of the race.

(b) The race organiser reserves the right to amend any part of the Rules and Regulations without prior notice. Decisions by the race organiser are final, and no appeal shall be entertained.

Equipment 
(a) All teams must be self-provisioned with the stated mandatory equipment required to race. (Refer to Mandatory Equipment list) Failure to do so shall render penalties to be imposed.

(b) The use of any equipment other than those stipulated must be made known & approved by the race organiser prior to the race day.

Withdrawal
(a) In the event that a team member or the entire team wishes to withdraw from the race, race officials at the nearest Checkpoint must be notified of the withdrawal.

(b) A single participant is not allowed to continue the race. Withdrawn teams may make their own way back to the end point or can choose to dismiss from the point of withdrawal.

Health & Safety
(a) All participants are advised to ensure that they have sought and obtained medical clearance prior to their participation in this race.

(b) Every participant is responsible for his/her involvement in the race. The race organiser will not be liable for injuries, mishaps, sickness, death or loss/damage to personal property that may occur during the race.

(c) Participants should ensure that they are well-rested prior to race day. Participants are advised to equip themselves with food, drinks or supplements during the course of the race.

(d) Water points will be made available at designated checkpoints for teams to refill their hydration packs.

(e) If a participant feels unwell during the race, he/she should seek immediate attention from race officials. First Aid posts and ambulances will be stationed along the race route. Mobile support crews will also be present to provide first aid assistance.

(f) In the event of a medical emergency or other request for help, the entire team must stop till appropriate and effective assistance arrives at the scene. Ambulance evacuation is strictly reserved for the seriously sick and injured. The race organiser reserves the right, with the consultation of a doctor, to prohibit a participant from starting or continuing the race.

(g) In the event of bad weather, the race organiser reserves the right to delay the race. Should the bad weather persist, the race organiser reserves the right to cancel the race without any refund of fees paid.

9. One (1) pair of running shoes / cross trainers / trail shoes
10. Hydration fluid system (eg camelbak / hydration pack) minimum 1.5 litres) and oral rehydration salts
