An unconventional tug-of-war competition and conquest challenge took place at SAFRA Tampines on 8 Apr 2017. The event saw 612 Singapore Infantry Regiment (SIR) take part in the largest Dragon Boat Tug of War competition and a new Cohesion Conquest Challenge. The event was organised by SAFRA Cohesion Services Management (CSM) to commemorate 50 years of National Service (NS50) and was attended by close to 500 NSmen.
Even the rain did not dampen the spirits of 224 NSmen as they tested their mettle in the game of tug of war. Rival teams, made up of two teams of six paddlers, had to sit on opposite ends of one boat and paddle furiously in opposite directions. The goal was to move the boat to their side of the pool. It was a light-hearted, yet competitive event as teams pushed their way through the waters.
In another fun-filled activity, teams raced against each other in the Cohesion Conquest Challenge made up of various obstacle courses and stations such as the conveyor belts, flipping tires and climbing the Apex ladder. These challenges not only reinforced the strong bonds between these men but also brought about laughter and fun.
Their teamwork paid off when MAJ (NS) Lim Yun Ben was presented with an official certificate by Mr Ong Eng Huat from the Singapore Book of Records. It was a great way to not only mark the end of their in-camp training but also as an opportunity for these men who came from all walks of life to reconnect and strengthen their 612 SIR bonds.
