Swimming for Something Greater

A Swim For Hope Exclusive with Theresa Goh

For the 6th edition, SAFRA’s Swim For Hope runs from 14th to 16th October this year. Raising funds for our beneficiaries; Community Chest, SAF Care Fund and the Special Olympics, Swim for Hope is a charitable event that aims to empower others one single lap at a time.

Exclusively for this year, Olympic and Para-Olympics Swimming Medallists; Joseph Schooling, Yip Pin Xiu and Theresa Goh, join in our efforts to help who are less fortunate.

Here are some exclusive insights from our interview with our nation’s Paralympic swimmer, Theresa Goh:

How has sports helped you in life?

Besides the physical advantages, being involved in sports has opened up so many opportunities for me. It has also made me more independent, disciplined and more outgoing.

What advice would you pass on to aspiring para-athletes?

I think whether they're para-athletes or not, I'd advise them to seek what they enjoy and are hopefully good at. It's important to me that life is led as happily and as fulfilling as possible.

What makes you support this event?

I think sport, whether swimming or otherwise, has a great positive effect on people. [By participating ] in Swim for Hope, [I will] be able to do something I enjoy and contribute to helping others, it's a win-win situation.

Who has helped you in your journey?

There are so many people. My family, friends, people whom I work with in my sport and people I have met on this journey. Everyone's played a part and I am really thankful to have had so many opportunities.

A big THANK YOU to all our volunteers, honourable guests and participants!
