"Every Brilliant Thing”, starring Sharon Sum, opens with a childhood memory of the Narrator visiting her mother in the hospital after a suicide attempt. To uplift her mother, she starts a list of brilliant things worth living for. As the list grows, so does she, and it becomes a source of comfort and strength throughout her life. Presented by Singapore Pools and produced by Gateway Arts, this one-person play by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe, directed by Oliver Chong, explores depression, joy, and resilience. The Guardian calls it "One of the funniest plays you’ll ever see about depression," engaging the audience in participatory storytelling.
Each show is accompanied by a post-show discussion led by a moderator and a panellist from Samaritans of Singapore (SOS). This will allow the audience to understand key issues relating to mental wellness and suicide prevention, offering valuable insights and practical advice.
