Race Format - Junior / Family Challenge

  • Held in partnership with Families for Life
  • The race will consist of 8 different disciplines. Some disciplines require team completion, while the rest require only 1 team member at a time.
  • For Parent & Child category, participants must compete as a team of two and must cross the finishing line together.
  • Any form of poor sportsmanship towards any Race Marshals, Event Staff or spectators can lead to disqualification.

Disciplines' Rules and Regulations:

  • All participants are expected to complete all disciplines and repetitions/distances in the correct order.
  • There will only be one entrance and exit to each of the disciplines.
  • Only use one equipment / lane assigned by the Race Crew of that respective Station.

Criteria: 3 x Walls

Both Parent and Child must climb over all 3 walls.
Assistance is permitted between the Parent and Child.
Station 2b : Lateral Move
Criteria: 3 x Walls 
Juniors must independently complete the full criteria.Not Applicable. 
Station 3: Leopard Crawl
Criteria: 20m Distance
Juniors must independently complete the full criteria.Parent and Child to complete the obstacle together.
Both Parent and Child must complete the 20m crawl.
Assistance is permitted between the Parent and Child.
Station 4: Farmers' Carry (Juniors & Child) / Tyre Flip (Parent)
Criteria: 2.5kg weights per side /  50kg Tyre. Both activities x 10m DIstance
Juniors must independently complete the full criteria.Child to complete the Farmer’s Carry followed by Parent’s attempt to complete the Tyre Flip.

Station 5: Box Step Up / Step Down
Criteria: 30cm Height x 20 Times

Juniors must independently complete the full criteria.Child to attempt the Step Up/Step Down and complete minimally 6 repetitions first.
Subsequently Parent and Child may rotate as needed until full criteria is completed.

Station 6: Laser Shooting
Criteria: 10m Distance x 10 Hits

Juniors must independently complete the full criteria.
Child to attempt the Laser Shooting and complete minimally 2 hits on target first.
Subsequently Parent and Child may rotate as needed until full criteria is completed.
Station 7: Rower Machines
Criteria: 250m (Junior) / 1000m (Parent & Child)
Juniors must independently complete the full criteria.
Child to attempt the Rower and complete minimally 200m first.
Subsequently Parent and Child may rotate as needed until full criteria is completed.
Station 8: Run
Criteria: 800m Distance
Juniors must independently complete the full criteria.
Parent and Child to complete the obstacle together.
Both Parent and Child must complete the full 800m run. 

APEX CLIMB

  • Each Apex Climb structure measures 4.5 m (L) × 3.3 m (W) × 2.2 m (H). 
  • Participants are required to ascend and descend both ladders to complete the full criteria
  • Walking, jumping or hopping while on the ladders is strictly prohibited. 
  • For the Parent & Child Category, both Parent and Child must complete the obstacle together in a single-file line with the parent at the back. 
  • Participants are expected to share the obstacle with others. Hogging or obstructing lanes is not permitted. 
  • If Race Marshals direct participants on the order of the course, all participants must comply with their instructions. 
LOW WALL
  • Each Low Wall measures 4.22 m (L) × 1.5 m (W) × 1.5 m (H). 
  • For the Junior Category, the participant does not need to climb over the wall but to do a Lateral Run between the 3 walls instead.
  • A crash mat will be positioned at the landing area of each wall. 
  • For the Parent & Child Category, both parent and child must climb over all three walls before proceeding to the next obstacle. The parent may assist the child if needed.
  • Participants may rest between walls; however, they are required to remain at the side of the obstacle and not obstruct other participants. 
  • If Race Marshals direct participants on the order of the course, all participants must comply with their instructions. 
LEOPARD CRAWL
  • Participants are required to complete the 20m Leopard Crawl. 
  • The obstacle height is designed to prevent participants from kneeling during the crawl. Participants must remain in the leopard crawl position throughout the obstacle. 
  • For the Parent & Child Category, both parent and child must complete the 20m crawl in a single-file line with the parent at the back.
  • If Race Marshals direct participants on the order of the course, all participants must comply with their instructions. 
FARMERS' CARRY / TYRE FLIP
  • For the Junior Category, the farmers carry weight will be 2.5kg per side.
  • The junior / Child must carry the weights from Point A to Point B, then back to Point A, for a total distance of 10m. 
  • For the Parent & Child Category, the child has to complete the Farmers' Carry discipline before the parent can proceed to attempt the Tyre Flip discipline.
  • The tyre for the parent weighs 50kg and participants must flip the tyre from Point A to Point B, then back to Point A, for a total distance of 10m. 
  • For the Parent & Child Category, the child will go first while the parent waits at the starting line and must completely cross the designated line before the parent can start with the Tyre Flip. 
  • Participants can move on to the next discipline after they have finished with their race criteria.
  • If Race Marshals direct participants on the order of the course, all participants must comply with their instructions. 
BOX STEP UP / STEP DOWN
  • Each box is 30cm high for the Junior and Parent & Child Category. 
  • One repetition is counted only when both feet land on top of the box before descending. 
  • Participants may descend one foot at a time. 
  • For the Parent & Child Category, the child will have to attempt the discipline first and complete 6 repetitions. Subsequently, parent and child may rotate at any point until full criteria of 20 repetitions are completed.
  • Each lane will be assigned a dedicated Race Marshal. Only repetitions counted by the Race Marshal will be considered valid. Repetitions will be counted aloud to keep participants informed of their progress. 
  • If a repetition does not meet the required standard, it will not be counted. No warning will be issued. 
LASER SHOOTING
  • Participants must achieve 10 successful target hits from a distance of 10m. 
  • Upon completing 10 target hits, participants must place the pistol down and raise one arm to signal a Race Marshal for verification. Participants may only proceed after receiving confirmation from the Race Marshal. 
  • No calibration of the laser pistol is required. 
  • After each shot, participants may refer to the LED display to confirm whether the shot was successful. The display will also show the cumulative number of successful hits. 
  • For the Parent & Child Category, the child will have to attempt the discipline first and complete 2 hits on target. Subsequently, parent and child may rotate at any point until full criteria of 10 hits on target is completed.
  • Participants must never point the laser pistol at spectators, other participants, or Race Marshals. Failure to comply may result in immediate disqualification at the discretion of the Race Marshal. 
ROWER MACHINE 
  • The participant must be securely strapped into the rower before taking hold of the handle and commencing the obstacle. Once ready, the Race Marshal will signal the participant to begin. 
  • The rower resistance setting is fixed at Level 7 for all categories. 
  • For the Junior category, participant must complete 250m distance.
  • For the Parent & Child category, the child will have to attempt the discipline first and complete 200m distance. Subsequently, parent and child may rotate at any point until full criteria of 1000m distance is completed.
  • Upon reaching the required distance, participants may only dismount after receiving confirmation from the Race Marshal. 
RUN
  • Participants are to run along the designated run area.
  • There will be no designated fast or slow lanes. As a general guideline, faster runners should keep to the right, while slower runners should keep to the left. 
  • Each lap is approximately 400m, and participants must complete two laps (approximately 800m).
  • On the final lap, all participants must enter the designated finishing lane and cross the finish arch to complete the race. 
  • For the Parent & Child category, the parent and child must complete the 800m run together and cross the finish arch together.
