Bowling has always been one of those activities I associate with birthdays, school outings and catching up with friends. It’s something I’ve always enjoyed, but I rarely think about doing until someone suggests it. So when my colleague asked if I wanted to go bowling at SAFRA Punggol’s Sonic Bowl after work, I was all in.

After changing into our bowling shoes and choosing our bowling balls, we headed straight to our lane. The alley was buzzing with families and groups of friends enjoying a game together, which made the atmosphere feel lively and welcoming. Before we got started, we spent a few minutes testing different bowling balls to find one that felt comfortable in our hands.

Time To Bowl

I won’t pretend I got off to a great start. My first few throws included plenty of gutter balls, missed pins and lots of laughter. Thankfully, none of us were taking the game too seriously, so it didn’t matter who was winning or losing.

As the game went on, though, we all started getting into it. We cheered whenever someone bowled a strike and laughed whenever a ball rolled straight into the gutter. It also didn’t take long to realise that bowling is about much more than simply throwing the ball as hard as you can. Your aim, timing, technique and even the weight of your bowling ball all make a difference.

Before long, the friendly competition kicked in. Every strike felt satisfying, and even converting a spare was enough to earn a round of cheers. By the time we finished our games, we were already talking about when we’d come back for another round.

Final Verdict

Looking back, I think that’s what makes bowling so enjoyable. It’s easy enough for anyone to pick up, yet there’s enough skill involved to keep every game interesting. Whether you’re catching up with friends, spending quality time with family or simply looking for something different to do, bowling is a great way to spend a couple of hours. It’s fun, surprisingly addictive, and a reminder that sometimes the simplest activities make for the best memories.
