Race Rules & Regulations

  1. Age categories will be determined by birth year, not birth date. For example:
    • If the age category is for 6 years olds, then all children born in 2020 are eligible, regardless of whether their birthday is in January or December.
    • Similarly, for the 8-year-old category, only children born in 2018 may participate, even if some have already turned 8 earlier in the year.
  2. The race is open to ALL BRANDS of balance bikes.
  3. Open to all children between 2 to 8 years old.
  4. Only balance bikes with 10” or 12” wheel sizes are permitted in the race.
  5. Cross-age registrations are strictly prohibited. For example:
    • A child born in 2020 must compete in the 6-year-old category, even if they are still 5 years old at the time of the race.
    • Likewise, a child born in 2018 is required to race in the 8-year-old category, even if they have not yet turned 8.
  6. Each rider must have their own balance bike; bike sharing is not allowed.
  7. Riders must wear a top and bottom with covered shoes. Tops must have sleeves, while bottoms can be either long pants or shorts. Sleeveless jerseys are not permitted – all tops must have sleeves.
  8. All riders must be geared up in helmets, elbow pads, knee pads, and covered shoes. We understand that some of the 2-year-olds might be smaller in size and elbow pads may be too large. This will be excusable only for 2-year-olds.
  9. Handlebar length must not exceed 460mm (from end to end)
  10. Axles must not extend more than 20mm beyond the fork.
  11. Parents or guardians are not permitted on the track during competition except for 2 and 3 years old categories.
  12. No parents are allowed at the starting gate and finishing line.
  13. The finish line is considered reached when the bike’s front tire crosses it while ridden.
  14. Any behaviour that disrupts the race will be considered a rule violation and may result in disqualification, including any actions taken to gain an unfair advantage
  15. Objections must be raised either during the race or immediately after it ends. Once a decision is final, no further objection will be accepted.
  16. Riders who are unable to attend on race day shall be marked as absent
  17. No rider replacements will be permitted on race day under any circumstances.
  18. All riders are to report at least 30 minutes before the start of the race for registration
  19. During registration, bike checks will be conducted.
  20. Registration for each category will close 5 minutes before the start of each category. Latecomers will not be allowed to register after that.
  21. Number tags will be assigned to you during registration, based on each category that you have signed up for.
  22. Riders will be given a 15-minute practice time on the race track before the start of the race for each category.
  23. Only riders of the particular category will be allowed on track. (e.g.: if the next race is for the 3-year-old category, only the 3-year-old racers are allowed on track)
  24. Prize presentation for each category will be held after the category’s race.
  25. SAFRA reserves the right to amend the race timings and format without prior notice, should there be unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather.
